Independent School District 112 is a rapidly growing school system currently serving approximately 8,600 students in Chaska, Chanhassen, Carver and Victoria. The district includes a Kindergarten Center, seven elementary schools (1-5), two middle schools (6-8), a 9th grade center and a high school (10-12). A second high school, located in Chanhassen, is currently under construction and scheduled to open in the fall of 2009.
The elementary schools emphasize basic skills. Students and teachers work with newly strengthened curriculum in math, reading, language arts and science. Each school has specialists working in the areas of special education, art, music and physical education. The middle schools balance continued emphasis on basic skills with exploration of new interests. Students meet daily in small groups with an adviser and each student is part of a “family” of teachers and students for core subjects. Club Mid provides a variety of after school activities for middle level students.
Chaska High School is a Class AA high school in the Lake Conference. It offers comprehensive programs for students bound for college, vocational schools or the job market. Four 90-minute periods permit students to take more classes during a single year. Chaska High offers 19 Advanced Placement classes for students who want to earn college credit while in high school. The CHS Quiz Bowl team took second place in national competition in 2006.
Results of a recent community survey revealed that 95 percent of parents polled note the quality of the schools as good or excellent.
